The big event - the book launch - and many people's first opportunity to see the book, occurs this Saturday evening at Cornerstone Church in Boulder. This is the big event that is being sponsored by Project Revive and is being set-up and staffed by a tremendous group of volunteers. Here's the link for advance registration for the event.

Also, I received a message while traveling in Texas yesterday. Erica Meltzer, Daily Camera Staff Writer, wanted information for a story that she was preparing for inclusion in this morning's paper. Well, I called and gave her information and a photo, she spoke with Elle, and she finished her story. Erica did a wonderful job of capturing what Elle and I hoped to do with the book! Here's a link Erica's writing from today's online and print edition of today's Daily Camera:

Erica's story also appeared this morning in the Longmont Times-Call online edition.
Hoping to see you on Saturday evening!

A Milestone is Reached
Today, I received an email from someone asking to be put on the list of those who have reserved copies of Until They Have Faces: Stories of Recovery, Resilience and Redemption. That's not unusual. However, this note, from Rick T. of Loveland, CO requested one book, and that happens to be the 125th book reserved on my list. That means that 25 percent of our print run of 500 books has been reserved and the books, while printed, delivered and in storage, have not yet even started to be distributed!
On top of this, I learned yesterday that the wonderful people from Project Revive that are planning the March 3 book launch event are also holding a reservation list. While I expect that their list isn't as long as mine, unless it's a complete duplication, even more books are being reserved.
And, since each person that attends the launch event will receive a book, that means that still more books will be taken.
All this is to say, if you haven't reserved a book, now is the time! Remember that 100 percent of the money from book sales will go to Bridge House and BOHO; very good causes!

Book Availability
It's been a month since the last post. Since then, most of the work has been behind the scenes, either with the printer or the party planners.
First, the printer. Vision Graphics in Loveland is printing the books. We just got notice yesterday that the printing and binding has been completed. They are now boxing the books for delivery! Pretty exciting, huh!!
The party planners have been hard at work, preparing a great launch celebration that's worthy of the effort and the cause that we are supporting. The books will be unveiled at the event and distribution will begin to those that reserved a copy. Here are some updated details on the launch event....

An Upcoming Launch
Ken Miller, Director of Project Revive, is leading the community-wide effort to celebrate the release of Until They Have Faces: Stories of Recovery, Resilience, and Redemption. We expect that this will be one of two related events to release the book and honor both those in Boulder's homeless community and those that serve them.On the evening of Saturday, March 3, at Cornerstone Church in south Boulder, a celebration event will be held. The atmosphere for the event will have an upscale, cocktail party feel. We expect that there will be live music, a chance to speak with some of the subjects of the book and some of the writers, and an opportunity to visit with sponsors and members of the community that serve the homeless.
The planners expect that there will be a cover charge for the event. That price will likely pay for a book, hors d'oeuvres and beverages, live music, and a contribution to our recipient organizations - Bridge House and BOHO.
More information on this event will follow as the planners continue their work and release additional information. But for now, hold the date of March 3, 2012 for an event at Cornerstone Church (1190 South Lashley Lane), from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
Additionally, another group led by Nancy Brinks is planning a complimentary event. It is expected that this event will have a lower-key tone and will be designed for and to specifically meet the desires of those in the homeless community. Likely also to be held in a Boulder church, this event will celebrate the contribution of the homeless to the book project.

It's off to the printer!
All the pictures of been taken, the stories have been written, sponsorship monies collected, and proofing has been completed. And electronically, we've gone to the printer.
Vision Graphics of Loveland, Colorado now has the electronic files of Until They Have Faces. We're hoping to receive a press proof before Vision Graphics closes for the Christmas holiday. What a great opportunity for celebration that will be!
We have received pre-production requests for 62 copies of the book (over 12% of our intended print run.). Primarily, these requests have come from writers, friends and others involved with the project. If you would like us to reserve a copy of this book for you so that you won't worry about it being sold out before you can get yours, please just send us a note as outlined in our last post.
Some people asked that we produce/provide some sort of nice certificate that they can give others for Christmas as a promise to provide a book once it's printed and released. I'm planning on creating such a certificate this weekend. If that's something you would like just send us an e-mail and we'll send you a copy of the PDF certificate.
Had a meeting yesterday with some of the key folks involved in the project. The meeting's purpose was to get planning underway for a launch event to release the book with appropriate style.
It looks as though we will likely have two launch events:
We believe that by holding two events like this, we will be able to honor those who were subjects in the book or friends of subjects in a respectful and non-threatening environment. The gala event for the broader Boulder community can then have some of the trappings of a more traditional community fundraiser and can further bring needed resources into the homeless services environment. Our hope is to include a broad range of homeless services providers at this event.
There is still much planning to do and significant volunteer resources are needed to make this the success that we envision. If you would like to be involved in giving this book an appropriate launch in the Boulder community please let us know.
Don't forget, on December 21 at 10 AM at the Boulder Bandshell Park there will be a memorial to those homeless people who passed away this year. The memorial is held on the longest night of the year in reflection of the challenges to stay warm during the cold winter season. Hoping to see you there.

Cover and Pre-Registration
Sue Campbell, our book designer extraordinaire, has completed a mock-up of the cover. Doesn't it look outstanding!
Plus, Sue has finished the first round of the design and has provided the comps to Elle and me to review. We are reading through them right now. There are some donor logos that need to be provided with a higher resolution, and some copyright matters to be resolved. But, for the most part, we are VERY close to being ready to go to the printer.
We are beginning the process of gathering pre-publication book reservations. While this process probably will not influence the quantity of books we will print -- expecting to print 500 -- this will assure that those who sign up early are assured to get a book if sales exceed expectations. So, if you would like to reserve a copy, this form has been created to tell the details. Just send me an email (David@DMPageImages.com) with your contact info (name, email address, phone number) and we will notify you when the books are ready for sale. The price will be $35.00 each. We are expecting the books to be ready in February.

More Great News! Sponsorships
We reached the place where seeking sponsorships has come to an end. And, we exceeded our expectations! Due to the generosity of people and organizations in the Boulder area that share our passion for helping others, we are able to get this project to publication without financial concerns.
A big THANKS to our major sponsors, all of whom will be recognized in the book:
A big THANKS to our major sponsors, all of whom will be recognized in the book:
- Boulder Valley Rotary Club - A vibrant group that shares lunch each Tuesday with engaging speakers and a true camaraderie. Hunger and homelessness in our community are top focus areas.
- CI International - A training and professional development firm that offers consulting, workshops, and coaching solutions to fuel exceptional performance throughout organizations.
- Community Foundation - Established in 1991 to encourage philanthropy and create opportunities to improve the quality of life in Boulder County, it has granted more than $43 million to non-profit groups since then.
- DMPage Images - A Niwot studio specializing in portrait, wedding and fine art photography. We captured all the photographs in the book.
- International Baccalaureate Programme of Niwot High School - A rigorous course of study designed to meet the academic needs of highly motivated secondary students and to promote international mindedness.
- Rotary Club of Niwot - A dynamic group of professionals devoted to serving both the local and international communities. The club meets weekly to support projects that promote the common good, and has fun doing it.
- Urban Mattress - A locally owned and family operated business that seeks to provide the best service, prices and products available while supporting the community at large.
As a result of these fine major sponsors, all the expenses of the design and production of the book will be paid. Therefore, all the money from sales of the books can go to the work of Boulder Outreach for Homeless Overflow (BOHO) and the Bridge House (formerly the Carriage House Community Table) without the need to pay extra expenses. This is a great milestone to reach!
